Topic 1e - The importance of field research and data validation (part 1) - Overview
In this video Professor Konrad Steffen will describe the network of automatic weather stations (AWS), ground-based measurements, and regular field research conducted on the Greenland ice sheet.
Through his 40 years of polar exploration, and 27 years of running the Swiss Camp field research station on the ice sheet, Professor Steffen will also provide a personal perspective on how he has witnessed significant change in the ice sheet over those decades. This combination of continuous longevity of research, and the point data information provided by automatic weather stations are fundamental to validating and complementing data obtained from satellites. In addition, the satellite data helps to interpret data otherwise only possible to measure from the ground.
