Introduction to Hazards

This is the science chapter, which looks at the physical characteristics of potential disasters and their frequency, outlining the four key perils that cause the most economic losses worldwide, which are:

Earthquakes
Tropical Cyclones
Windstorms
Floods

The purpose of the hazard module in cat modelling, is to produce simplified representations of the complex physical characteristics that are being modelled.
