2d – The scale of cloud-based processing and storage

In this video Bryan Lawrence and Jonathon Churchill take you around the JASMIN data centre and archive, showing it’s capabilities, scale and servers.

The JASMIN facility is a “super-data-cluster” which delivers infrastructure for data analysis. It provides the UK and European climate and earth-system science communities with an efficient data analysis environment. It is run by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) on NERC’s behalf, and based at STFC’s Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. JASMIN was designed to support the academic community in carrying out world class science and help support industry.

Phase 4 of the JASMIN project, which started in 2018, involves a major capacity and capability upgrade. The upgraded system will support the global analysis of the next generation of climate models and provide a venue for UK academia and industry to exploit Earth observation data.
