Introduction to ocean colour

Welcome to week 4 - focussing on the Living Oceans. In this week, we will explore the role of phytoplankton in the oceans and how it can be measured with satellites. And we will look at a range of ways in which satellites can be used to monitor biodiversity.

In this first video, Dr Helen Czerski and Dr Hayley Evers-King provide a special introduction to ‘Ocean Colour’ as a key ocean parameter which can be measured from space. They also discuss in this video how measurements from satellites complement observations made by oceanographers in-situ to help monitor and manage biodiversity.
